It is a basic component of all steel and ferrous alloys, evoking on them a very big impact. Carbon lowers the transition of
temperature of Fe Fe γ → α, allows tempering of steel, reduces the thermal conductivity, with an increase of its content in
the steel its weldability deteriorates. With the increase of carbon, the structure of steel changes, steel with the content to 0.8%
has a structure of pearlite and ferrite, at 0.8% shows the structure of pearlitic steel, steel structure containing more than 0.8%
carbon, consists of pearlite and cementite exuding on the boundary of grain. By increasing the amount of carbon in steel
increases its hardness, tensile resistance, increases its plasticity but decreases narrowing, elongation and toughness.
